This is an example of what the park might look like. It was made by the same company( American ramp Builders) who are going to build ours. I thought since the ramps will be steel they will be slick, and hot in the summer, but it looks like they make woodramps too. Click this picture to link to thier site.

More on the park(This article was printed 1/8/02.) A local group of youngsters' dream of
a skate park moved closer to fruition Monday night.
At a meeting of the city council's city property
commitee, alderman said the youths could likly expect some help from the city in building the park.
Meanwhile, Mark LeClair, president of the Paxton Park Board, said he would recommend an area of Poolside Park as a site.
The final third of the
three-way agreement would involve the youth, who would raise much of the ,000 cost for the facility.
A group of teens late last year collected more than 900 signitures over four days urging a skate park to be built. The young people presented the petitions at the Nov. 13 council meeting.
They said police won't allow them to use skateboards or in-line skates on the streets or sidewalks. They want the skate park for a safe alternitive.
Five of the youths, headed by Michael Alt, spoke to the commitee Monday night and said they would be willing to develop a fundraising plan.
Paul Rickey, Paxton Park District rec. director, researched the cost of building a 60-foot by 40-foot facility.
The costs include ,800 for a 10-foot-tall fence and gate surrounding the park,,500 for a surface of asphalt or concrete and ,000 for the design and constuction by American Ramp Co., Joplin,Mo.
It would feature all-steel ramps.
Rickey said he spoke with the park district's insurance company, which recommended the skate park be confined
to skateboards and in-line skates. No bicycles would be allowed.
One of the youths
, Paul Anderson,said
he was disappointed no
bicycles would be allowed.
He said he thought several other young people would be disappointed as well.
Rickey said insurance company officials recommended an unsupervised park with rules posted.
Alt passed out material that showed the benifits of skate parks. The material indicated the parks have a low rate of liability and help lower crime.
LeClair said the park district does not have funds to sink into the skate park but would be willing to furnish the land east of
the volleyball courts.
He wasn't optimistic that the state grant money could be obtained for the project.
The board has been trying
without sucess for the last couple of years to
secure state grant money for Coady Park, east of Poolside Park.
"I don't think anybody on the park board is against it, but we don't have the time or the equitment, and we don't have the funds,"LeClair said.
Alt and his friends are expected to meet with the park board Jan. 14.
Asked if he thought skateboarding and in-line skating is just a fad, Alt said he didn't think so. He said they have been around for some time and have become not only a recreational option, they are also a sport featuring competitive events.
As for city funding,Mayor James Kingston said Comptroller Julie Burgess informed him money wouldn't be available this fiscal year. The city, however, might be willing to help with some man power.
Afterward, Bill Goben, commitee chairman, characterized the meetings as a "half-way commitment"for the park from the city and the park district.
